I never thought I'd do it....

But I'm sooo happy to be proven wrong. Voila! Here we have a blog post devoted entirely to... *drum roll* ..... the one, the only... Taylor Swift!

Believe it or not, this blog is by a girl who is/was the biggest Taylor Swift snob ever.

That's me. I was a Swift Snob, I guess you could say.

She's been pretty much a sensation, right? 8 grammy nods, wasn't it? Don't ask me how I know, either. I surprise myself.

More albums sold and song downloads than any other country star EVER, I do believe I read somewhere.

So at times it's seemed like myself and a few of my friends (I see you raising your hand back there, Peach!) are the only backlash. The only teen girls who AREN'T absolutely digging all of her songs.

Why didn't I like her?

a. Her song writing is immature (to be expected, I suppose, when you wrote some of your hits when you were 15 or so)

b. I don't like the image she portrays (I had a hard time finding a picture I wanted to put on this blog, honestly. Not that they were all immodest, I just didn't like the tone...).

Criticisms aside!

Today, Ophie and I were very shocked and very pleased to stumble across this song in our quest for good Christmas music. Her two other Christmas songs were I-miss-you-this-Christmas-breakup/love songs.

She can write a good break-up song, by the way. *Grins sheepishly*

We listened to the first 30 seconds of this song, expecting it to be no different than the others we'd tried. Then I perked up.
Listen--- just listen to it! How many popular singers (and, as I said above, she's VERY popular!) have the courage to risk the love of their fan base, dare to be controversial, and share what they really believe about Christmas?

My favorite part is the last chorus when she sings the name of Jesus Christ. Sings the name of Jesus Christ!

I'm not saying that she might not go and write a blatantly immoral song someday. My hope is not in celebrities. If she disappoints me-- and Christians everywhere--- it is because she is human.

But this was brave and deserves to be applauded!

Amen! More!

Keep it up, Taylor!

I am perfectly happy and willing to have my opinion changed, as it was (somewhat) by this song. I am still not a TS fan, but am quite excited to see Taylor's courage and the message of this particular song. Way to go, Taylor! ---P

Taylor Swift is pretty good. She has a nice singing voice, though ALL of her songs are about relationships.
But wow! that's AWESOME! :)
Thanks for sharing.

Ditto Peach!

I've always kind of liked her style, but maybe the reason that I started out viewing her in a critical light is because I first heard her at her worst... when no one knew about her but her fellow Washingtonians. They played her all over around here! Still, for being 15, she was pretty good.

Remeber the "Tim McGraw song?" When she would sing..

"when you turn the Wolf on.." (which would be 100.7)

Or she did another version for the other West WA country station,

"When you turn on KMPS... I hope you think of that dress..."

Funny thing is, I still listen to 100.7 the wolf and 94.1 KMPS... Peach, I see you nodding again...

Good ole WA country...

Lib... you just need to turn off the Celtic music and listen to some Country/Pop (she's pretty pop). Then you'
ll know about...

Wait! Did I say 'turn off the Celtic music' ???? NOOOOO! Never!

I will always listen to Celtic music with you.

=D

I like her voice, but I think she's pretty over rated :P

O.o

I'm shocked that she has a song like this. I wonder if she did it just for us Christians? Or if she really means it. She seems like the type who would mean it. She seems very sincere about a lot of her life.

I used to like her, then decided that her songs weren't losing my heart over, and stopped listening to her. But I love this song. I'm going to go buy it. =P

I think it took some courage for Taylor. For that I'd like to give her a hand *clapping*. But I do agree that most of her songs are immature. That's one of the reasons I stopped listening to her. But, she is a good writer.

Country and Celtic!!! Forever! Hey, that's what team I am! *wink*

(though I have started to use Audrey's answer to that question, "I'm team Libby" =)

I'm still not a fan, but you've shown me a reason not to turn my nose up at her anymore...

Cool :) I'm not really a fan, though, because she can't actually sing :-/ Isn't that a bummer??

I like your blog! We seem to agree on a lot of things, from what I've read of your comments on Earwen's blog and posts on here.

I like most of Taylor's songs. This one especially! This is the first time I've heard it. It warmed my heart and made me so excited!

Also, have you heard of the artist Owl City? On my blog I have a song by this artist called the Christmas Song, and he says in one line-
I believe Jesus is the only way
That's why I celebrate Christmas because it's His birthday.
It made me happy to see someone who was just happening upon great fame and yet singing that line.

Wow! I had no idea that she would actually sing that. It makes me want to know if she is really a Christian. Hmmmmmm...
